Invitation

Organized by the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC), the annual Users’ Meeting & Workshops is one of the biggest and the most important meetings in the field of synchrotron radiation in Taiwan. Each year, it has approximately 250 poster presentations and attracts over 400 participants. The 29th Users’ Meeting & Workshops is scheduled to take place from October 23rd to 26th, 2023. The User Executive Committee (UEC) of the NSRRC sincerely invites you to attend the event and present your research results. The four-day program will be packed with excitement, featuring invited talks by outstanding users and various opportunities for participants to discuss and exchange ideas. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the NSRRC’s light source inauguration. We heartily welcome you to take part in our celebration. The program is briefly summarized below.

Day 1: October 23rd (Monday)

  • Predecessors and officials in the synchrotron-radiation field will be gathered along with users to celebrate the “30th Anniversary of First Light.”
  • As a senior NSRRC user who specializes in application of synchrotron radiation, Deputy Minister Minn-Tsong Lin from the National Science and Technology Council, also the Chair of the NSRRC Board of Trustees, will deliver a plenary talk.
  • During the "Poster Session," all posters and presenters will be on-site evaluated. As for the "English Oral Presentation" competition, outstanding authors from the first-round pre-evaluation will proceed to the final competition. The winners will be awarded at the banquet on Oct. 25.

Day 2: October 24th (Tuesday)

  • The NSRRC management will brief users on the "Current Status and Future Prospects."
  • The "Town Meeting" features reports on the current status by the UEC and Neutron UEC chairpersons. The NSRRC management will also be present to address issues related to users and facility development.
  • The “NSRRC Outstanding Paper Award,” established to advance science in the field of synchrotron radiation in Taiwan, will recognize scientific achievement in natural sciences this year. The recipient will give a presentation on the award-winning work.
  • Another “Poster Session” will give presenters more time for sharing and discussion.

Day 3: October 25th (Wednesday)

  • The well-received "NSRRC Run" will allow participants to break a sweat and take in enjoyable settings of the NSRRC campus.
  • Co-hosted with the National Tsing Hua University, “Sow-Hsin Chen Distinguished Lectureship on Neutron Science & Technology” aims to explore cutting-edge research in neutron science.
  • All attendees are invited to the banquet, where they can reconnect with old friends and make new friends in a relaxing yet joyful atmosphere.

Day 4: October 26th (Thursday)

  • Workshop I: XAS-XMCD of Novel Materials
X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic Circular Dichroism (XAS-XMCD) has become the preferred measurement technique to identify elements, valency, local structure, as well as evolution of their charge- and spin-state electronic structure across magnetic and metal-insulator phase transitions, with experiments carried out also in-operando conditions. Recent studies emphasize the significance of high-energy resolution, element specificity of spin-charge excitations and in-situ XAS-XMCD measurements for various materials in basic and applied sciences. This workshop aims to gather experts in the field to share recent developments and research results on novel materials exhibiting spin-charge transitions and how XAS-XMCD can be used to investigate their electronic structure and magnetism. Valuable experiences, requests and suggestions from the experts will contribute to next generation use of high-resolution and high-field XAS-XMCD in Taiwan.
  • Workshop II: Neutron Diffraction and Reflectivity Workshop
Neutron diffraction and reflection are powerful tools in materials science research. Neutron diffraction investigates crystal structures of materials, while neutron reflection probes the structure and properties of material surfaces and interfaces. Both techniques have been applied in fields such as ferromagnetic materials, superconductors, thin films, biological membranes, and interfaces, providing essential information on crystal structure and atomic positions. This workshop will explore the latest advancements and potential applications of these techniques in materials science, physics, and chemistry.

We welcome colleagues from the scientific community to sign up for the event. Please complete the online registration (https://nsrrc-usermeeting2023.conf.tw/to?en) by August 25th (Friday).

Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting!
